MuertaHERO GAME PLAN

What I want to do in the game

As a carry, I keep my distance and make the most of the Pierce the Veil window; as a support, I use fear and area control.

Muerta is a master of death who stalks the lands of life, corralling targets with fearsome trickshots and summoning revenants to smother her foes. Always ready to pick off unwary targets with her spare gunhand, Muerta is at her most menacing when she crosses the veil of the dead to strike her enemies with the ethereal fury of the damned.

01 / ROLE IN THE TEAM

A pick is not a plan yet.

My recommendation is a starting point. We choose another position together with the team and for its needs.

01

Carry · position 1

Initial recommendation

I need protected farm, my item window and damage on important targets.

04

Support · position 4

I contribute through laning, control and movement. I adapt the expensive core route to my budget.

MY VIEW OF THE HERO

Pick for a purpose. Play with a plan.

When I pick

I choose carry for ranged attacks and Pierce the Veil's magical window; on support, I use fear and area control.

What I watch out for

The damage type during the ultimate changes the value of focus. Magic protection and a quick dive onto the hero require rethinking positioning and button order.

What I do in combat

I aim Dead Shot with the ricochet and desired target movement in mind. I activate the ultimate for a real attack window, not waiting or a pointless chase.

What I check first

My damage type changes during the ultimate: I check the target’s defenses in advance and preserve my positioning.

02 / ITEMS FOR A PURPOSE

What I buy and why.

This is an editorial starting plan based on hero mechanics. It is not presented as a match I have already tested or a popularity ranking.

Carry · position 1

My starting plan

Here is my initial plan: I do my role's job first, then choose the items the team needs. I adapt the order and expensive purchases to the opponent.

  1. 01 / First stepPower Treads

Provide attack speed and switchable attributes for farming and managing my resources.

  2. 02 / FoundationMaelstrom

Speeds up creep clearing and adds attack damage against multiple targets.

  3. 03 / FoundationBlack King Bar

Provides a window for my actions against eligible magical damage and disables. I check effects that pierce the protection.

  4. 04 / Next choiceMjollnir

Upgrades Maelstrom for frequent attacks and adds a defensive electrical effect to the chosen target.

  5. 05 / Next choiceDragon Lance

Increases a ranged hero’s attack range and provides useful attributes.

What I change for the situation 3 options
Hurricane Pike ↗

Combines attack range with a tool for breaking a dangerous close-range engagement.

Daedalus ↗

Increases physical attack damage once access to the target and protection are already secured.

Aghanim's Scepter ↗

Unlocks or upgrades Dead Shot. The exact effects are shown below in the abilities section.

I see the minute on the clock. And the situation too.

I do not assign one ‘correct’ minute to every purchase. I look at my gold, the next fight and the problem: am I missing mana, target access, control or protection? If an expensive slot will arrive too late, I get a useful answer earlier.

03 / HERO ABILITIES

Abilities. As in the game.

Original Valve icons and descriptions. Cooldowns and mana are shown by level from the data snapshot; talents and upgrades can change the values.

Ability

Dead Shot

The hero fires a ghostly bullet at an enemy or a tree. On reaching its target, the bullet deals damage and briefly slows it, then ricochets in the selected direction.

↻ 16 / 14 / 12 / 10 sec.Mana 100 / 120 / 140 / 160
Details and upgrades

Muerta fires a ghostly trickshot at an enemy unit or tree. When the bullet strikes, it damages and briefly slows, then ricochets in the targeted direction. The ricochet damages all units that it passes through, stopping when it hits a hero. Heroes hit by the ricochet are feared away from the impact.

Aghanim’s Scepter

Dead Shot damage is increased. Dead Shot expands after it ricochets and pierces through enemy heroes as it fears them.

Ability

The Calling

Summons a group of 4 revenants that slowly circle the targeted location. Enemies within the area are slowed. Revenants deal damage and silence enemies as they pass through them.

↻ 30 / 28 / 26 / 24 sec.Mana 135 / 150 / 165 / 180
Ability

Gunslinger

Toggleable. When toggled on, Muerta's attacks have a chance to fire a second shot at another target.

Ability

Pierce the Veil

The hero takes an ethereal form, gaining bonus base damage and the ability to pass through units.

↻ 75 / 60 / 45 sec.Mana 150 / 250 / 350
Details and upgrades

Muerta transforms, becoming ethereal, gaining bonus base damage and phased movement. Passively allows Muerta to always attack ethereal targets and attack when she is ethereal. When either she or her target is ethereal, all of her attack damage is dealt as magical damage and her physical lifesteal is treated as spell lifesteal. DISPEL TYPE: Basic Dispel

Aghanim’s Shard

Adds spell lifesteal. While the ability is active, Muerta permanently gains spell damage amplification from enemy heroes who die nearby or whom she kills; stacks accumulate from the start of the game.

Mechanics note: some upgrade numbers are missing from the source; I check the exact values in the client.
Innates, upgrades and other forms2 abilities +

These abilities are not necessarily available at the same time. I check the condition beside the name: innate ability, another form or an Aghanim purchase.

From Aghanim’s Shard

Spectral Slug

The hero fires a spectral bullet at the selected enemy, damaging and knocking it back. Also for 3 sec.

Full description

The hero fires a spectral bullet at the chosen enemy, dealing damage and knocking them back. It also turns the target ethereal for 3 sec., making them immune to physical damage, slowing them and preventing attacks, while increasing the magic damage they take by 20%. Enemies cannot be knocked beyond the hero’s attack range.

Innate

Supernatural

When an enemy hero dies within a radius of 925, the ability’s owner gains a stack that grants +1% spell damage. On death, the owner loses half the stacks, rounded down.
