Primal BeastHERO GAME PLAN

What I want to do in the game

I initiate with Onslaught, stay in contact with Trample, and choose a target for Pulverize.

Rushing savagely through enemies and allies alike, Primal Beast pounds into battle as one born to raise a ruckus. An unavoidable threat amidst any fray, the Beast can punish attackers and relishes grabbing prey to repeatedly slam them against the ground until nothing but mush remains.

01 / ROLE IN THE TEAM

A pick is not a plan yet.

My recommendation is a starting point. We choose another position together with the team and for its needs.

03

Offlane · position 3

Initial recommendation

My resource is the team's space: I hold the lane and build for initiation or team protection.

02

Mid · position 2

Levels, lane control and joining the team at the right moment matter.

MY VIEW OF THE HERO

Pick for a purpose. Play with a plan.

When I pick

I pick this for strong early contact and access to a target through Onslaught. The team must follow up Pulverize's hold.

What I watch out for

Disables on the hero and an unsuitable endpoint for the run-up can disrupt the channel. Being large does not protect against every response.

What I do in combat

Before the run-up, I choose a path and final target. I use Trample while preserving movement, and start Pulverize once I have accounted for nearby interrupts.

What I check first

I am vulnerable to suitable disables while channeling: grabbing a target does not guarantee a kill.

02 / ITEMS FOR A PURPOSE

What I buy and why.

This is an editorial starting plan based on hero mechanics. It is not presented as a match I have already tested or a popularity ranking.

Offlane · position 3

My starting plan

Here is my initial plan: I do my role's job first, then choose the items the team needs. I adapt the order and expensive purchases to the opponent.

  1. 01 / First stepPhase Boots

Help maintain close contact and pass through groups of units.

  2. 02 / FoundationBlack King Bar

Provides a window for my actions against eligible magical damage and disables. I check effects that pierce the protection.

  3. 03 / FoundationBlink Dagger

Changes the entry angle and lets me reach a target quickly. Damage taken can prevent its use.

  4. 04 / Next choiceShiva's Guard

Adds armor and pressure in an area, helping limit the enemy’s health restoration.

  5. 05 / Next choiceAghanim's Scepter

Unlocks or upgrades Uproar. The exact effects are shown below in the abilities section.

What I change for the situation 3 options
Pipe of Insight ↗

Provides team protection against substantial magical damage.

Lotus Orb ↗

Lets me remove an eligible negative effect and complicates the opponent's targeted focus.

Refresher Orb ↗

Lets you repeat your main power window. Before buying, I consider whether I will have enough mana for both casts.

I see the minute on the clock. And the situation too.

I do not assign one ‘correct’ minute to every purchase. I look at my gold, the next fight and the problem: am I missing mana, target access, control or protection? If an expensive slot will arrive too late, I get a useful answer earlier.

03 / HERO ABILITIES

Abilities. As in the game.

Original Valve icons and descriptions. Cooldowns and mana are shown by level from the data snapshot; talents and upgrades can change the values.

Ability

Onslaught

The hero charges up and runs in the selected direction, knocking back enemies and allies alike. Colliding with enemies damages and stuns them. The longer the charge-up, the farther the hero runs.

↻ 25 / 22 / 19 / 16 sec.Mana 120
Details

Primal Beast charges up and then runs in the chosen direction, knocking back enemies and allies alike. Enemy units are damaged and stunned on impact. The longer the charge duration, the farther Primal Beast's momentum will carry him. Can be cancelled at any time with the Stop command.

Ability

Trample

Primal Beast stomps over everything. For every 140 units traveled, all enemies around the Beast receive damage. Deals base damage plus a multiplier of Primal Beast's attack damage. Primal Beast is disarmed for the duration of the ability.

↻ 30 / 27 / 24 / 21 sec.Mana 100
Ability

Uproar

Because of his bad temper, the hero gains one charge of this ability each time he takes at least 50 damage from heroes.

Details and upgrades

The Beast's temper causes every instance of 50 hero damage or more to grant a stack of Uproar. When activated, Primal Beast releases a roar that slows surrounding enemies and grants the Beast additional attack damage and armor for 7 seconds based on his current stacks of Uproar.

Aghanim’s Scepter

On use, the hero releases 3 waves around himself with 2 projectiles per stack. Projectiles damage enemies hit and apply break. After a short delay, each projectile splits in two.

Ability

Pulverize

CHANNELED — the hero grabs the selected enemy and repeatedly slams it into the ground, damaging and briefly stunning all enemies in the area. Damage increases with each slam until the ability ends.

↻ 45 / 40 / 35 sec.Mana 100
Details

CHANNELED - Primal Beast channels his rage, grabbing the target enemy and slamming them into the ground repeatedly, damaging and mini-stunning any enemies caught in the AoE. Each consecutive hit deals bonus damage. Lasts 2.3 seconds.

Innates, upgrades and other forms2 abilities +

These abilities are not necessarily available at the same time. I check the condition beside the name: innate ability, another form or an Aghanim purchase.

From Aghanim’s Shard

Rock Throw

The hero throws a rock at the selected point, stunning and damaging enemies. After landing, the rock breaks into 3 fragments that fall beyond the selected point. The throw has a minimum range.

Full description

Primal Beast throws a rock at the target location that stuns and damages enemies. The rock cannot be thrown within a minimum range of Primal Beast. After landing, the rock splits into 3 additional fragments that land behind the initial target location. Rock Throw increases stacks of Uproar for each hero hit.

Innate

Colossal

The hero has 10% base slow resistance and gains +0.5% spell radius and +1% slow resistance for every 100 points of maximum health.
