MorphlingHERO GAME PLAN

What I want to do in the game

I farm with adaptive attributes, choose when to go in, and use Morph as the situation demands.

Shifting his attributes to suit his situation, Morphling can be as elusive as he is deadly. Whether riding a wave to flank an enemy, or boosting his health before escaping into his deceptive replication, few can hope to corner him.

01 / ROLE IN THE TEAM

A pick is not a plan yet.

My recommendation is a starting point. We choose another position together with the team and for its needs.

01

Carry · position 1

Initial recommendation

I need protected farm, my item window and damage on important targets.

02

Mid · position 2

Levels, lane control and joining the team at the right moment matter.

MY VIEW OF THE HERO

Pick for a purpose. Play with a plan.

When I pick

I choose this if I am ready to manage attributes and the team gives me time for the items I need. The potential depends on careful health calculations.

What I watch out for

Silence and instant burst are dangerous with too little strength in reserve. Ancient Apparition also forces more careful recovery calculations.

What I do in combat

I do not move without information on minimum health. Before entering, I check what could prevent me pressing the required button and preserve a Waveform route.

What I check first

Attribute shifting does not save me from every disable: I assess silences and burst damage in advance.

02 / ITEMS FOR A PURPOSE

What I buy and why.

This is an editorial starting plan based on hero mechanics. It is not presented as a match I have already tested or a popularity ranking.

Carry · position 1

My starting plan

Here is my initial plan: I do my role's job first, then choose the items the team needs. I adapt the order and expensive purchases to the opponent.

  1. 01 / First stepPower Treads

Provide attack speed and switchable attributes for farming and managing my resources.

  2. 02 / FoundationDragon Lance

Increases a ranged hero’s attack range and provides useful attributes.

  3. 03 / FoundationManta Style

Provides illusions for pressure and a separate dispel. This item cannot help you wait out or remove every disable.

  4. 04 / Next choiceEye of Skadi

Improves attributes and lets attacks keep a target under control, limiting suitable sources of its restoration.

  5. 05 / Next choiceSatanic

Helps recover health through attacks during its active window; without access to a target, it is not a guaranteed save.

What I change for the situation 3 options
Butterfly ↗

Increases physical damage and protection against suitable attacks. I check whether the enemy has an answer to evasion.

Linken's Sphere ↗

Blocks an eligible targeted ability; a cheap enemy spell can remove this protection in advance.

Black King Bar ↗

Provides a window for my actions against eligible magical damage and disables. I check effects that pierce the protection.

I see the minute on the clock. And the situation too.

I do not assign one ‘correct’ minute to every purchase. I look at my gold, the next fight and the problem: am I missing mana, target access, control or protection? If an expensive slot will arrive too late, I get a useful answer earlier.

03 / HERO ABILITIES

Abilities. As in the game.

Original Valve icons and descriptions. Cooldowns and mana are shown by level from the data snapshot; talents and upgrades can change the values.

Ability

Morphling dissolves into liquid and surges forward, damaging enemy units in his path. Morphling is invulnerable during Waveform.

The hero launches a stream of water at an enemy unit, stunning and knocking it back and dealing base damage plus damage based on the owner’s agility. The agility multiplier is at its maximum if the hero’s agility is 50% higher than his strength.

Launches a surge of water toward an enemy unit, stunning them, knocking them back, and dealing base damage plus additional damage based on Morphling's agility times a multiplier. If Morphling's agility is 50% higher than strength, the maximum agility multiplier is used. Knockback distance and stun duration are based on Morphling's strength. If his strength is 50% higher than his agility, the maximum knockback distance and stun duration is used.

Morphling changes his form to match the targeted enemy, gaining their basic abilities and changing his primary attribute based on his target. Can be toggled for the duration of the ability.

Details and upgrades

Morphling changes his form to match the targeted enemy, gaining their basic abilities and changing his primary attribute based on his target. Can be toggled for the duration of the ability.

Aghanim’s Scepter

Adds an alternate cast mode to the ability. When enabled, it creates a strong illusion of the selected hero that can use all their basic abilities. If the illusion is alive when Morph is used, the hero moves to its location and destroys it.

These abilities are not necessarily available at the same time. I check the condition beside the name: innate ability, another form or an Aghanim purchase.

Innate

Ebb and Flow

The hero gains cast range and slow resistance bonuses based on current strength, and attack range and movement speed bonuses based on current agility.

Full description

Morphling receives bonus cast range and slow resistance based on his current Strength, and attack range and movement speed based on his current Agility. These bonuses persist if he is morphed into another hero.
