MedusaHERO GAME PLAN

What I want to do in the game

I protect my mana pool, farm, and turn a late-game inventory into sustained damage against multiple targets.

Constant attack is the key to Medusa's success. Using her mana shield to stave off assault, she employs split shots to mow down waves of enemies. Once she gathers her full strength, she becomes a force powerful enough to stop anyone in their tracks.

01 / ROLE IN THE TEAM

A pick is not a plan yet.

My recommendation is a starting point. We choose another position together with the team and for its needs.

01

Carry · position 1

Initial recommendation

I need protected farm, my item window and damage on important targets.

MY VIEW OF THE HERO

Pick for a purpose. Play with a plan.

When I pick

I choose this if the team provides economy and a frontline, while I preserve mana for a sustained fight and AoE attacks.

What I watch out for

Mana burn, including from Anti-Mage and his illusions, changes the survival reserve. I do not judge danger by the health bar alone.

What I do in combat

I hold a position where I can keep shooting. I use Stone Gaze when the enemy has trouble turning away or when I need an exit, not simply at the start of any fight.

What I check first

I pay for survival with mana: mana burners require a separate plan and careful positioning.

02 / ITEMS FOR A PURPOSE

What I buy and why.

This is an editorial starting plan based on hero mechanics. It is not presented as a match I have already tested or a popularity ranking.

Carry · position 1

My starting plan

Here is my initial plan: I do my role's job first, then choose the items the team needs. I adapt the order and expensive purchases to the opponent.

  1. 01 / First stepPower Treads

Provide attack speed and switchable attributes for farming and managing my resources.

  2. 02 / FoundationManta Style

Provides illusions for pressure and a separate dispel. This item cannot help you wait out or remove every disable.

  3. 03 / FoundationEye of Skadi

Improves attributes and lets attacks keep a target under control, limiting suitable sources of its restoration.

  4. 04 / Next choiceButterfly

Increases physical damage and protection against suitable attacks. I check whether the enemy has an answer to evasion.

  5. 05 / Next choiceDragon Lance

Increases a ranged hero’s attack range and provides useful attributes.

What I change for the situation 3 options
Hurricane Pike ↗

Combines attack range with a tool for breaking a dangerous close-range engagement.

Satanic ↗

Helps recover health through attacks during its active window; without access to a target, it is not a guaranteed save.

Black King Bar ↗

Provides a window for my actions against eligible magical damage and disables. I check effects that pierce the protection.

I see the minute on the clock. And the situation too.

I do not assign one ‘correct’ minute to every purchase. I look at my gold, the next fight and the problem: am I missing mana, target access, control or protection? If an expensive slot will arrive too late, I get a useful answer earlier.

03 / HERO ABILITIES

Abilities. As in the game.

Original Valve icons and descriptions. Cooldowns and mana are shown by level from the data snapshot; talents and upgrades can change the values.

Ability

Split Shot

The hero magically splits her arrows to attack multiple targets, but deals less damage. Attack effects such as critical strikes do not apply to the additional targets.

Aghanim’s Scepter

Allows on-hit effects to apply to the secondary attacks from Split Shot. Increases arrow count.

Ability

Mystic Snake

A mystic snake made of energy jumps from target to target dealing damage. Damage and speed increases with each jump. After it reaches its last target, it returns to Medusa to replenish her with mana. The snake returns a percentage of the targets' total mana.

Details

Medusa fires arrows in a line that land in 3 groups, with each grouping larger than the previous. Enemies struck by a volley of arrows take an initial burst of damage and then are rooted, cannot turn, are revealed to the enemy, and take damage per second.

Ability

Stone Gaze

Any enemy units looking at Medusa will have their movement and attack speed slowed. If 2 seconds of total time is accumulated looking at Medusa while Stone Gaze is active, that unit will turn to stone. Petrified units are stunned, and take bonus physical attack damage.

These abilities are not necessarily available at the same time. I check the condition beside the name: innate ability, another form or an Aghanim purchase.

Cold Blooded

When the hero is targeted by an enemy spell, she fires a snake from Mystic Snake at the caster. It turns the caster to stone for 1 sec. and does not bounce to other enemies.
