BeastmasterHERO GAME PLAN

What I want to do in the game

I control territory with my units and set up a reliable target for the team with Primal Roar.

Summoning a poison-spitting boar and a scouting hawk to aid his hunt, Beastmaster never stalks the battlefield unprepared. Chopping through the forest with his axes, his stunning roar opens the way for his allies to devastate enemies.

01 / ROLE IN THE TEAM

A pick is not a plan yet.

My recommendation is a starting point. We choose another position together with the team and for its needs.

03

Offlane · position 3

Initial recommendation

My resource is the team's space: I hold the lane and build for initiation or team protection.

MY VIEW OF THE HERO

Pick for a purpose. Play with a plan.

When I pick

I choose this for territory control through units, information and targeted Primal Roar on an important target.

What I watch out for

AoE damage and quickly killing controlled units reduce pressure. If the army dies for free, the expensive helm does not deliver value.

What I do in combat

I separate the hero's, scout's and summoned units' jobs. I use Roar where the team can follow up focus, not simply on the first target I see.

What I check first

Units and vision need attention; I do not feed my summons while only watching my hero.

02 / ITEMS FOR A PURPOSE

What I buy and why.

This is an editorial starting plan based on hero mechanics. It is not presented as a match I have already tested or a popularity ranking.

Offlane · position 3

My starting plan

Here is my initial plan: I do my role's job first, then choose the items the team needs. I adapt the order and expensive purchases to the opponent.

  1. 01 / First stepArcane Boots

Provide mana for laning and regular ability use.

  2. 02 / FoundationHelm of the Dominator

Adds a controllable creep for pressure and useful abilities; requires you to control another unit.

  3. 03 / FoundationHelm of the Overlord

Builds up your army and pressure with auras and a powerful dominated unit.

  4. 04 / Next choiceBlink Dagger

Changes the entry angle and lets me reach a target quickly. Damage taken can prevent its use.

  5. 05 / Next choiceAssault Cuirass

Gives the team armor and attack speed, helping it apply physical pressure to heroes and objectives.

What I change for the situation 3 options
Pipe of Insight ↗

Provides team protection against substantial magical damage.

Black King Bar ↗

Provides a window for my actions against eligible magical damage and disables. I check effects that pierce the protection.

Aghanim's Scepter ↗

Unlocks or upgrades Drums of Slom. The exact effects are shown below in the abilities section.

I see the minute on the clock. And the situation too.

I do not assign one ‘correct’ minute to every purchase. I look at my gold, the next fight and the problem: am I missing mana, target access, control or protection? If an expensive slot will arrive too late, I get a useful answer earlier.

03 / HERO ABILITIES

Abilities. As in the game.

Original Valve icons and descriptions. Cooldowns and mana are shown by level from the data snapshot; talents and upgrades can change the values.

Ability

Wild Axes

Beastmaster sends his axes flying and calls them home again, slicing through enemy units and trees along their path. Each axe can hit an enemy once, and amplifies subsequent damage from Beastmaster and his units.

Aghanim’s Shard

Beastmaster's attacks on enemy heroes also apply the Wild Axes debuff of its corresponding level.

Ability

Summon Razorback

Beastmaster calls forth a Boar to aid in the battlefield. The Boar has a passive poison attack that slows attack and movement speeds.

↻ 30 sec.Mana 60
Ability

Summon Raptors

The hero summons 2 hawks that circle above him and dive at random enemies every 4 sec., prioritizing heroes, dealing damage and rooting them. The hawks’ attack frequency increases with their attack speed.

Aghanim’s Shard

Adds a second hawk. Increases the hawks’ lifetime by 25 sec.

Ability

Primal Roar

The hero lets out a mighty roar that stuns the target and knocks aside all enemies in its path. All affected enemies take damage, and those knocked aside have reduced attack and movement speed. Also for 2 sec.

Details

Beastmaster lets loose a deafening roar that stuns, and shoves open a path to its target. All units in the path of the roar are damaged, while units shoved aside by the roar have their movement and attack speed slowed. Additionally, Beastmaster and his units gain 40% movement speed for 2 seconds.

These abilities are not necessarily available at the same time. I check the condition beside the name: innate ability, another form or an Aghanim purchase.

Innate

Inner Beast

Untaps the inner fury of Beastmaster and units he controls, passively increasing their attack speed.

From Aghanim’s Scepter

Drums of Slom

When the ability’s owner or his nearby units attack, he beats his drum, damaging nearby enemies and healing himself and his units for a portion of the damage dealt.

Full description

When the ability’s owner or his nearby units attack, he beats his drum, damaging nearby enemies and healing himself and his units for a portion of the damage dealt. Each attack reduces the interval between beats, down to 0.5 sec. after 20 attacks. If no attacks occur, the interval gradually increases. Casting Primal Roar counts as 10 attacks.
