Spirit BreakerHERO GAME PLAN

What I want to do in the game

I use Charge to join in on an already identified target and disrupt the enemy backline.

Highly mobile and always aggressive, Spirit Breaker charges across the map to bring the fight to his enemies. With each bash of his heavy lantern, he knocks his foes senseless. His enemies may run, but with the help of a few wards, they cannot hide.

01 / ROLE IN THE TEAM

A pick is not a plan yet.

My recommendation is a starting point. We choose another position together with the team and for its needs.

04

Support · position 4

Initial recommendation

I contribute through laning, control and movement. I adapt the expensive core route to my budget.

03

Offlane · position 3

My resource is the team's space: I hold the lane and build for initiation or team protection.

MY VIEW OF THE HERO

Pick for a purpose. Play with a plan.

When I pick

I pick this to join from range and disrupt an important hero's position when the team knows how to follow up my arrival.

What I watch out for

Stopping Charge, an awkward endpoint and the entire enemy team nearby can turn a long run-up into a bad delivery.

What I do in combat

I check the target's location and nearest allies before charging. If the situation changes on the way, I change the decision rather than riding to the end on principle.

What I check first

Charge signals my intentions: I do not cross a dangerous map without a plan for when I stop.

02 / ITEMS FOR A PURPOSE

What I buy and why.

This is an editorial starting plan based on hero mechanics. It is not presented as a match I have already tested or a popularity ranking.

My starting plan

Here is my initial plan: I do my role's job first, then choose the items the team needs. I adapt the order and expensive purchases to the opponent.

  1. 01 / First stepPhase Boots

Help maintain close contact and pass through groups of units.

  2. 02 / FoundationShadow Blade

Helps change the angle of approach and start an engagement; I account for detection along the route.

  3. 03 / FoundationBlack King Bar

Provides a window for my actions against eligible magical damage and disables. I check effects that pierce the protection.

  4. 04 / Next choiceAghanim's Scepter

Unlocks or upgrades Greater Bash, Nether Strike. The exact effects are shown below in the abilities section.

  5. 05 / Next choiceOctarine Core

Reduces cooldowns when my impact is limited by how often my spells are available.

What I change for the situation 3 options
Blade Mail ↗

Makes enemy focus fire more costly by returning damage when the opponent is forced to keep attacking.

Lotus Orb ↗

Lets me remove an eligible negative effect and complicates the opponent's targeted focus.

Silver Edge ↗

Improves a stealthy approach and adds break against relevant passive abilities.

I see the minute on the clock. And the situation too.

I do not assign one ‘correct’ minute to every purchase. I look at my gold, the next fight and the problem: am I missing mana, target access, control or protection? If an expensive slot will arrive too late, I get a useful answer earlier.

03 / HERO ABILITIES

Abilities. As in the game.

Original Valve icons and descriptions. Cooldowns and mana are shown by level from the data snapshot; talents and upgrades can change the values.

Ability

Charge of Darkness

The hero charges toward an enemy, ignoring all obstacles in his path. Initially grants 25% of the bonus speed, reaching the maximum after 1.5 sec.

The hero charges toward an enemy, ignoring all obstacles in his path. Initially grants 25% of the bonus speed, reaching the maximum after 1.5 sec. Greater Bash triggers on the charge target and enemies hit along the way. If the target dies during the charge, the hero switches to the enemy nearest to it.

Aghanim’s Shard

Increases Charge of Darkness bonus speed by 275/325/375/425.

Ability

Bulldoze

Spirit Breaker gains movement speed and status resistance to ram through enemies. Can be used while charging.

↻ 22 / 20 / 18 / 16 sec.Mana 30 / 40 / 50 / 60
Ability

Greater Bash

Gives a chance to stun and knockback an enemy unit on an attack. Deals a percentage of movement speed as damage.

Aghanim’s Scepter

Increases knockback distance. If the victim collides with another enemy, this ability also affects that enemy at full strength, while the original target takes another 25% damage. Such collisions deal only 20% damage to creeps.

Ability

Nether Strike

Spirit Breaker slips into the nether realm, reappearing next to his hapless victim. Upon reappearing, a Greater Bash of the current level occurs and deals bonus damage. Knocks back for double the normal distance.

Greatly increases knockback.

Innates, upgrades and other forms2 abilities +

These abilities are not necessarily available at the same time. I check the condition beside the name: innate ability, another form or an Aghanim purchase.
