Ancient ApparitionHERO GAME PLAN

What I want to do in the game

I help my allies focus targets and land Ice Blast on heroes who rely on health restoration.

Able to launch a powerful blast of damaging ice across the battlefield, Ancient Apparition threatens to shatter weakened enemies wherever they are. Slowing enemies as he enhances his allies' effectiveness in battle, he is a constant threat to his foes.

01 / ROLE IN THE TEAM

A pick is not a plan yet.

My recommendation is a starting point. We choose another position together with the team and for its needs.

05

Hard support · position 5

Initial recommendation

Help the lane, provide vision and keep the ally alive first; expensive upgrades follow the necessary team purchases.

04

Support · position 4

I contribute through laning, control and movement. I adapt the expensive core route to my budget.

MY VIEW OF THE HERO

Pick for a purpose. Play with a plan.

When I pick

I choose this against plans that depend heavily on health recovery: Ice Blast changes the calculation of that engagement.

What I watch out for

A mobile target is hard to hit without information and disables. The hero is vulnerable in close combat, so positioning and saves matter especially.

What I do in combat

I launch Ice Blast at the future fight location and tell allies about the hit. Then I continue from range rather than walking in first to confirm the result.

What I check first

Ice Blast needs you to account for the target’s movement; I do not throw it merely at the spot where an enemy was a second ago.

02 / ITEMS FOR A PURPOSE

What I buy and why.

This is an editorial starting plan based on hero mechanics. It is not presented as a match I have already tested or a popularity ranking.

Hard support · position 5

My starting plan

Here is my initial plan: I do my role's job first, then choose the items the team needs. I adapt the order and expensive purchases to the opponent.

  1. 01 / First stepArcane Boots

Provide mana for laning and regular ability use.

  2. 02 / FoundationGlimmer Cape

Adds a protective tool and hides the chosen ally; invisibility does not replace escaping detection.

  3. 03 / FoundationForce Staff

Moves me or an ally out of danger; direction depends on the target's facing.

  4. 04 / Next choiceAether Lens

Lets you use targeted abilities and items from a safer distance.

  5. 05 / Next choiceAghanim's Scepter

Unlocks or upgrades Chilling Touch, Bone Chill. The exact effects are shown below in the abilities section.

What I change for the situation 3 options
Aghanim's Shard ↗

Unlocks or upgrades Ice Blast. The exact effects are shown below in the abilities section.

Aeon Disk ↗

Protects against sudden focus fire. I account for the cooldown and the fact that my damage is limited while it triggers.

Octarine Core ↗

Reduces cooldowns when my impact is limited by how often my spells are available.

I see the minute on the clock. And the situation too.

I do not assign one ‘correct’ minute to every purchase. I look at my gold, the next fight and the problem: am I missing mana, target access, control or protection? If an expensive slot will arrive too late, I get a useful answer earlier.

03 / HERO ABILITIES

Abilities. As in the game.

Original Valve icons and descriptions. Cooldowns and mana are shown by level from the data snapshot; talents and upgrades can change the values.

Ability

Cold Feet

Places a curse on an enemy, dealing damage over time. If the enemy unit doesn't move outside of the given range from the initial location, it will be stunned and frozen in place after 4 seconds.

↻ 15 / 13 / 11 / 9 sec.Mana 110 / 115 / 120 / 125
Ability

Ice Vortex

Creates a vortex of icy energy that slows, deals damage, and increases magic damage done to enemies in its range.

↻ 10 / 8 / 6 / 4 sec.Mana 40 / 55 / 70 / 85
Ability

Chilling Touch

Enhances Ancient Apparition's attack with increased range and a burst of magical damage and slow.

↻ 10 / 7.5 / 5 / 2.5 sec.Mana 35
Details and upgrades

Aghanim’s Scepter

Removes cooldown.

Ability

Ice Blast

Sends a projectile towards the selected point on the map. Casting again launches an ice ball that explodes where the projectile was when activated. The farther it travels, the larger the explosion radius.

↻ 50 / 45 / 40 sec.Mana 175
Details and upgrades

Launches a tracer toward any location on the battlefield, which must be triggered again to mark the area to be blasted by a damaging explosion of hail. The further the tracer travels, the larger the explosion will be. Enemies caught in the explosion, or who touch the icy ball of hail as it travels, are Frostbitten, taking damage over time and prevented from regenerating or healing. If a Frostbitten unit's health drops below a certain percentage, they will instantly shatter.

Aghanim’s Shard

Applies the stun from the current level of Cold Feet to affected targets for 50% of its normal duration.

Innates, upgrades and other forms1 ability +

These abilities are not necessarily available at the same time. I check the condition beside the name: innate ability, another form or an Aghanim purchase.

Innate

Bone Chill

When Ancient Apparition deals Magic damage to an enemy with his abilities, it is slowed for a short duration. If the target is a Hero, its Strength is also reduced. Multiple instances of this effect stack and have independent durations.
