Dota 2 patch 7.42: what we know as of October 25

A client update and a balance patch are different things

A Steam file download alone does not prove that a hero’s damage, an item’s price or the map’s rules have changed. That conclusion needs published patch notes or a check of the specific mechanic. Download size and an impressive screenshot are no substitute for a source.

What to check before your next match

Open the official patch notes and look up your hero and planned items. Separate three questions: what changed, in which match it matters and which decision you now need to reconsider. A price change alone does not make an item mandatory.

An editorial example: before buying a defensive item, name the threat—disable before your first cast, magic damage or poor positioning. Then compare your available options and budget. Our glossary and item-choice guide help explain the terms without copying someone else’s build.

Where to check the next announcement

Direct Valve links are below. Check the publication date and the text itself, rather than just a retelling of the headline. Once an official version number and changes appear, those will provide the basis for analysis. We do not assign an expected patch to the next tournament.
